Website Advertising - Making the most of your traffic.

Welcome back; today’s topic of discussion: advertising! You may have noticed that over the last week I have introduced some new advertising components. ‘EntreCard’, ‘ADSDAQ’ and my own four little blocks. On top of these three, I also have ‘Google Adsense’ - making it a total of four advertising mediums. I find my advertisements to be well placed and not intrusive of readers, but when you think about it, I have a lot of advertising. I’m working my way up in the advertising chain, but in this day and age of the revolutionized web, the ol’ pay per click just won’t cut it.
I will start with ‘Google Adsense’. This is the first ad network I used due to the fact that it is seen as ‘industry standard’. The problem is that they are ‘Pay Per Click’ ads. People generally don’t click on these ads simply because they don’t interest them, or because the word ‘ad’ is evil in their head. I find Adsense to have generally good pay, however clicks are very rare - especially for small sites. So from here I decided it was time to find some other ways to make money off blogging.
The next addition to my blog was ‘EntreCard’ (head over to their site if you’d like to see what it’s all about in detail). That rectangle on the side panel, with the yellow bar down the bottom with the EntreCard ‘E’ is just about it. EntreCard is a business card gone 2.0; you go onto other peoples sites and drop your card, and they come to yours and drop their card. Each time you drop your card you get points to spend on advertising, which is that current advert in the frame at the moment. You also get points for people to advertise on your blog. This creates a huge network of people going to and from sites to drop cards. You can even sell your EntreCard credits! With this large amount of traffic now coming to my blog as a result of EntreCard, I have set up another ad system: ADSDAQ.
ADSDAQ is a “Pay Per View” advertising company. You can actually get paid for people coming to your site, they don’t even need to click! However the downside is you only get paid for 2-15% of your page impressions. I currently have an ADSDAQ ad on three of my affiliated websites. The advertisement on this blog is seen in the sidebar and on another site of mine (Koncept Webmasters) - the advertisement is at the bottom near the copyright text. These ad’s are discrete and don’t affect the viewers experience on the webpage.
The last set of advertisements that I have implemented are the four squares over on the sidebar. These are just my own ads that I thought that I would implement. Why? Because I wanted a controllable ad system where I get to set my own price. It’s also a great opportunity to do link swapping (which I am doing at the moment), as this gets my blogs name out there and drives more traffic here which in turn creates more money from advertisements.
All these advertisements that I have on my blog work in synchronization with each other. EntreCards direct traffic to my blog, which raises money for ADSDAQ and by the off chance, I will also get a click on Adsense. The four side ad’s I have also do much the same. I have also carefully placed the advertisements on my site so as to not intrude or bother visitors of the blog. While I may not get a great income from all these advertisements, the site is still young and hopefully it will come up with some decent money soon enough. I recommend for you other web developers out there to look into the methods of advertising and see how you can effectively make money whilst not annoying your users, and that includes not even thinking about ads with audio!
Try out some methods of advertising, see how they go. Please tell me in comments about your experience’s with advertising and any tips or suggestions for other readers, even me!
Cheers,
Matt

Hi,
With adsense, I don’t get that many click either. However, if you have multiple blogs, the clicks can really add up. Don’t give up on Adsense yet:)
