Silly Microsoft and Still Sillier Word 2007! What’s the Update?

SILLY MicrosoftWhy do you think people are moving to Open Source Software instead of the application software packaged with your Windows XP or Vista? Is it just because the best of them are generally free! Is it because you won’t have to spend a few hundred dollars on proprietary software when its purpose can be as effectively solved by a freeware developed by a bunch of low-paid developers?

While money is a considerable matter with the choice of software for domestic or commercial use, in my humble opinion, proprietary software are cutting their own roots with idiot (:humble:) stuff they are doing.

I bought a new laptop with Microsoft Vista Home Premium pre-installed last year. With a good enough configuration of 2 GB DDR2 667MHz RAM, 120 GB hard disk supported on an Intel Core 2 Duo 1.67 GHz processor, Windows Vista does no better than the Windows 98 installed on my old 128MB, 20GB HDD Pentium III desktop, in terms of speed & utility. I never bought Microsoft Vista for the eye-candy over Windows XP that I was using. I am quite comfortable with navigating through plain menus rather than those bubbly buttons that do nothing better. You re-arrange some options, add some animations and change the interface so that it eats up your hardware. Do you call that an update? I’d use some avatar of Linux with free Open Source Utilities instead of buying such lame updates from Microsoft!

Okay! so you believe me, Microsoft is Silly… But do you know Microsoft Word 2007 is still sillier!

Microsoft Word 2007 is Still Sillier I upgraded my Office XP to Microsoft Office in the same (:stupid:) rush under which I upgraded to Microsoft Vista.

And this is the stupidest Word Processor I have ever used in my life. Try copying some text from a website and then open Microsoft Word 2007 to paste it (CTRL +V). You won’t be able to paste in anything from anywhere unless you have Word 2007 already open! A feature that is even available with Notepad!

Moving to Open Office tonight! Microsoft products would have been so much better if they were Open Source too!

Thanks,
Abhinav Sood

What are you talking about? You can copy something into Word without having it open first just like you can with any application…

There is nothing wrong with Vista or Word 2007, please like you just find things wrong with everything no matter what it is…I would expect to see a post about how Open Office sucks next….

Oh! Is it? Maybe my CTRL+V have some family problems with Word 2007. Never works for me!

Its not about finding wrong with everything I come across. I am using Windows and other Microsoft Products ever since I started using a computer, thats for about 12 years now, and never had anything to say against the good corporation.

As for now, I’ve rolled back to XP and not any Linux distro but I will, if Microsoft stops support for Windows XP and continues with enforcing itself on us.

About Open Office, sure its a good idea to make a post about the good and the bad of it. You can’t expect an open source software to be as good as proprietary software, but then… They improve day by day!

I don’t know what you’re talking about with Office 2007. Out of hundreds of computers at Uni that has Word 2007, non of them have the problem that you mentioned.

Alas, a 1.67 GHz processor ins’t quite good enough if you want speed and utility from Vista. 2.13 is the minimum that will provide that. And it will provide it impressively.

I recently helped an older gentleman get a new laptop so he could start computing. The best deal came with Vista, and even though I upgrading a lot of his hardware so it would run better, it was still not enough for the bulky Vista.
To top it off, all the Vista induced popups and questions have him so intimidated he is afraid to turn the thing on. He isn’t sure whether he wants to do something or not, and when asked about it he assumes it is bad. He gets nothing done, and does not enjoy his laptop at all.

I have to admit I am still running my original copy of Office 2005! It does the job just fine and doesn’t have so many bells and whistles that it bogs down my pc.
