Ahhh, good ol’ betas, don’t you love them?
Tonight I finally got my beta invite to try out the new Mac program still in beta; Skitch. What is this program? It’s hard to describe. I think the best way is mixing digg, flickr, paint and ease of use.
You can easily take a screenshot of your whole screen or just a portion by dragging the crosshair over the part you want to take and it automatically takes it into the program. From here you can add simple shapes in, circle objects with the pen tool and even add text! All these sit ‘on top’ of the image so you can simply drag them into place. You can also do this with images straight from your iPhoto library or even a folder. Skitch even has a tab on the bottom of the program which allows you to drag from the program to a folder and save the image.
Skitch can also capture images from your iSight with a timer countdown and is edited the same way as the other files.
The best thing about Skitch? It has 1 click upload. You are given your own private homepage which images are uploaded to and you can send direct links to the seperate image pages which allows for comments. You can also customize Skitch’s upload destination so it can even go to your host. The Skitch gallery page also has pre-made tags for sharing the image; even embedding into a forum.
Here is a screenshot of skitch (I couldn’t take it by Skitch because it autohides!, but I edited it in skitch ;)) . This is the basic interface. As you can see I’ve taken a screenshot of the AnotherPointlessBlog.com homepage and can edit it easily. (Click the thumbnail!)
As you can see, Skitch is a fantastic program. I will be sure to use it when I need to share my desktop, websites I find and also quickly upload images to send to friends all over the world. This application is still in beta but is great! With a fantastic development team, a good concept and a solid foundation this applications is sure to be an essential for all Mac users in the near future. If you would like an invite please email me at Matt@AnotherPointlessBlog.com or, head over to InviteShare.com, sign up and request for an invite. This program is absolutely fantastic and deserves a good look. This program gets a 8 out of 10 for me, and I’m sure you will be as pleased as I am with it.
Get Skitch and Have Fun!
Matt.

Looks like an awesome program!
Do you know if they will be making one for windows or any other OS’s as well?

It was going to be made for Windows but the Skitch crew abandoned the idea, Sorry, Only for Mac!
Cheers,
Matt.
Edit: My mistake due to research! Skitch is still in development for Windows!

Skitch is currently for the Mac only, but the Windows version of Skitch was NOT abandoned.

Really? I’m sure I read somewhere that it had abandoned Windows, Let me go searching!
I can’t find the post, Well you heard it from the man himself, Skitch windows is still in development!
Question: If a Windows user receives an invite to Skitch beta now, can they keep it in their inbox until a Windows version is released?

[...] I am also guilty of getting into the beta invite craze, I have looked at every site on Invite Share and requested an invite for the ones that interest me (I plan on writing reviews for all beta’s that I think are worth a look at, like Skitch). [...]
